Chatham-Kent large-water-user applications and flow limits

Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada

Large-volume Chatham-Kent developments need a separate water-demand review. Allow at least four weeks for modelling, and do not assume the system can supply the requested flow.

Who needs the review

The PUC names greenhouse, agricultural, industrial and large commercial developments as examples of large-volume users. Complete the Application for Large Water Users so staff can assess pressure, capacity and effects on neighbouring customers.

This review is separate from a routine residential meter fee. A proposed demand is not an approved entitlement; the distribution system may need a lower rate or may be unable to provide the requested capacity.

Analysis and the maximum flow

The minimum review time is four weeks from submission for hydraulic modelling. Additional field investigation can extend it. Incomplete applications are not processed, so the clock should not be treated as a guaranteed approval deadline for a partial submission.

The PUC determines the allowed maximum in litres per second. The applicant must install a rate-of-flow control-valve system set to that maximum and monitored by the PUC. Staff may reduce the requested demand where supply or capacity is insufficient.

Submission and agreement

Submit to ckamfm@chatham-kent.ca or fax 519-352-3432. Mail applications to Chatham-Kent PUC, AM/FM Department, 325 Grand Avenue East, PO Box 1191, Chatham ON N7M 5L8.

An approved or reduced request requires a formal agreement with PUC. Ask the AM/FM Department at 519-360-1998 about a proposal before committing equipment to an assumed supply rate. Do not start connection work based on an unreviewed application.
