Confirm category and location
The Business Licensing Guide identifies activities needing licences, documentation and application steps. A separate Home-Based Business Guide covers home occupations and industries. Ask Licensing at 519-360-1998 or cklicensing@chatham-kent.ca if the activity is unclear.
Before a lease or application, confirm the proposed use with Building Development Services at ckbes@chatham-kent.ca. Municipal permission for the premises and Ontario business registration are separate tasks.

Prepare the full package
The municipality requires the applicable Ontario Business Name Registration or Articles of Incorporation, the completed application, government photo ID and the category’s fee. The page links classification-specific checklists, forms and current fees rather than one universal amount.
Licensing circulates the file to required departments, which may include Building, Zoning, Fire, Health or Police. Inspections may be needed. Missing documents delay processing, and an application is not a promise of approval.

Validity, renewals and changes
Most licences last one year from issue. Mobile Food Premises renew every May, and Seasonal Housing renews every March. Fees are not prorated. Renewal reminders are normally mailed about 45 days before expiry.
Owners remain responsible even without a reminder. Municipal licences cannot transfer between owners or locations; contact Licensing before changing either. A prior operator’s licence is not your authorization.
